Just a little blog from me this time regarding the use of supplements and which from my personal experience I have seen the benefits from.
A lot of people fall into the trap of thinking that because you are taking a supplement with someone with the body you want on the packaging or advertising that this will automatically happen to you! Unfortunately I can tell you this isn’t the case! It was only a few weeks a go I had a teenager ask me if I could recommend a protein shake because his wasn’t working. After asking him about how much food he was consuming daily I had to break his heart and explain to him that protein shakes alone will not make him massive and in fact they are only there to supplement a diet and not be the diet! I went on to explain that a solid nutrition plan, which hit his required macros for his goal and a consistent weights program, was the way forward. He looked somewhat disappointed and carried on with his workout.
Currently the supplements I take are all from Genetic Supplements that we stock at Letchworth Fitness and they are:
>> MegaVit
>> Fish Oils
>> Creapure
>> Bio Whey
>> Recovery
All of the above I take to supplement my diet of which the majority of my macros I get from real food.
In my experience with supplement taking my favourite one is creatine. Within a week of using this I was noticeably able to get a couple more reps out of a weight that I was going to failure on previously. If you are doing a resistance programme then I would consider looking into using creatine supplementation.
My take home message would be to assess your goals and look at what would benefit you reaching them and not to be conned by the marketing of supplements companies. Do some research online and if it fits introduce it into your nutrition plan BUT remember supplements alone won’t make you reach your goals!
