Nick Intro

For my first blog I want to introduce myself and give you the background behind my fitness and why I decided to become a personal trainer.

Growing up I played a lot of sport but my focus from an early age was on playing rugby. As I grew older and everyone around me just grew physically (not that I am bitter or anything!), I started to look at ways to improve my performance and support my skills that I had already honed. The obvious way to go about this was to start hitting the gym. After being brutally honest with myself and realising/accepting that I was never going to become built like a brick outhouse, I decided that improving my strength and power would be the best way to compliment my acceleration that served me so well and the way that I liked to play.

After hours of research on the Internet and trial and error in the gym, I started to notice improvements in my performance. All of a sudden I was able to compete with players who were a lot bigger than me and get through tighter gaps in the defence. Something which before would have resulted in bigger players using the strength advantage to stop me! Unfortunately a couple of bad injuries and 4 operations later, I had to finally accept the advice from specialists to stop playing (I know get your violins out).

Rather than seeing the news as a total negative, it is where my decision to help others with their fitness goals started. After getting my degree in Sports Conditioning, I quickly went on to complete my Personal Training course and since then I have loved every minute of being a Personal Trainer. Getting to know different people and understanding what motivates them in order to achieve things they didn’t think they could, inspires me to find fun and proven ways to help people achieve what they want.

Today, my own training still revolves around strength and power work that I used whilst playing rugby just in case I decide at some point to dust off the boots and get on the field again. However, generally my goal is to be as athletic as I can and succeed at whatever challenge is put in front of me!

I hope you have enjoyed getting to know me a little more and if you managed to read the whole piece without falling asleep, keep an eye out for more blogs from me in the future.

If you would like to get in contact with me directly then do not hesitate.
